Midas Data Acquisition System
You're reading a local copy of the documentation
This copy came with your midas installation, so it matches your version of midas. For the latest official documentation, see midas.triumf.ca/docs.
Midas is a data acquisition (DAQ) system for physics experiments. It reads data from your detectors, writes it to disk, and gives you the tools to control and monitor the experiment from a web browser: run control, slow control, history plots, alarms, an electronic logbook and more.
You write the parts that are specific to your experiment (such as reading out your hardware) in C++ or Python. There are open-source community contributions for some popular devices.
Midas is actively developed, and used by many experiments around the world.
Where to start
If you're new to midas, read What is midas first. Then follow the path for your role:
-
Operators
You run shifts on an experiment that's already set up.
-
Experiment admins
You install midas and set up the experiment.
-
Developers
You write frontends, analyzers, scripts or web pages.
Each page is tagged with the audience it's written for, so you can tell at a glance whether it's meant for you. You can also filter on these tags when you search (on small screens, click in the search box to show the list of filters).
